BAMIT BOARD NOMINATIONS

It is an election year for BAMIT. We are reaching out to the BAMIT membership for nominations for the BAMIT Board of Directors. Nominees for the BAMIT Board must be members in good standing and hold Regular or Life membership status. Newly-elected Directors will serve a two-year term beginning September 2024 through August 2026.

To nominate a BAMIT member or to self-nominate, please download and complete the NOMINATION FORM. Nominations will close on Tuesday April 2, 2024. All nomination forms need to be completed and submitted to rositaparker@alum.mit.edu by COB April 2, 2024.

The Board functions as a professional organization governed by the BAMIT Bylaws and the Code of Ethics. Additionally, there is a Policies and Procedures Manual that documents our operations.

BAMIT has been growing – the number of programs has increased; these programs require program management and funds. The only limitation of BAMIT’s impact is having hands on deck to do the work. We specifically need Board members who have experience in:

  • Treasurer Duties / Accounting

  • Fundraising

  • Communications, website support and social media

  • Program management – we can use help with planning and executing programs of interest to our BAMIT community:

    • Research Slams

    • Panel Discussions

    • Black Graduate Celebration

    • Tech Reunion

  • Membership Outreach

The BAMIT Board consists of 16 Directors positions. BAMIT is seeking committed individuals who can carve out the time to serve in this important role.

Each year, in addition to monthly ZOOM conference meetings, the Board holds a mandatory Board Retreat scheduled during the September MIT Alumni Leadership Conference (ALC). Moreover, all Board members serve on at least one Board Committee, with meetings scheduled based on all committee members' schedule availability. The approximate time commitment is about 7 to 10 hours per month. We strive to make the time commitment for BAMIT board members easily manageable so that we can attract volunteer members willing to participate in the important work of BAMIT.

For the detailed description of Board Member Responsibilities and committees please review the BAMIT Bylaws and the Committees descriptions.

So why should you get involved by nominating a BAMIT member or self-nominating for the BAMIT Board?

You can be the change that makes the difference in the lives and academic progress of contemporary Black students on campus…you remember what it was like…

You can be the welcome voice that encourages a bright yet hesitant young Black student to apply to and choose to attend MIT

You can join with other BAMIT members who choose to up their level of participation and work together on the Board to advance BAMIT

You can both “give back” and “pay it forward” with relatively minimal time commitment relative to the contribution you can make…

The BAMIT Board needs a constant infusion of energy and ideas to keep our momentum going and YOUR PARTICIPATION in this nomination process is the source of that infusion!

To nominate a BAMIT member or to self-nominate, please download and complete the NOMINATION FORM. All nomination forms need to be completed by COB Tuesday April 2, 2022 and submitted to rositaparker@alum.mit.edu.

Please consider adding your commitment of time and energy to the BAMIT Board!
